Coaster whānau quit for Christmas

Each year, whānau on the West Coast are quitting smoking to save up for the summer holidays.

Some quit to get more Christmas prezzies under the tree; others are just glad to finally hit a New Years’ resolution.

When whānau find out about the incentives on offer to help them stop smoking, they’re often pleasantly surprised – quitting smoking can do more than just save money; it can help to earn some back.

Oranga Hā Tai Poutini – Stop Smoking West Coast offers a $100 grocery voucher to everyone who stays smokefree for 4 consecutive weeks when working with one of our smokefree coaches.

For pregnant māmā, we can offer up to $600 in grocery vouchers throughout your pregnancy and after baby arrives. Those supporting māmā through pregnancy can get up to $450 in grocery vouchers. And for people living with young tamariki in the home (under 5 years of age), we can offer up to $225 in grocery vouchers.

But it’s not just about the vouchers; what keeps whānau smokefree is everything they gain. More money in the pocket every week means more kai on the table – or savings in the piggy bank. We see parents become more confident knowing they’re setting up their whānau for a healthier future. That’s a gift that keeps giving, long after Christmas.
